Champion Foods has issued a voluntary recall of its Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread over potential Salmonella contamination linked to a supplier's powdered milk ingredient.

The recall, announced on May 31, 2026, affects both single packs and two-packs of the cheese bread. The contaminated milk powder was used in the product's seasoning blend.

Major retailers including Costco, Target, Walmart, Kroger, and Publix are among more than 20 companies that distributed the recalled items.

Wider Dairy Supply Issue

The recall stems from a previous bulk recall of powdered milk and powdered buttermilk by California Dairies.

According to the FDA and USDA, over 40 food products from multiple manufacturers have been affected by the contaminated dairy supply.

Federal agencies are updating trackers on their websites to identify downstream products made with the affected milk powder.

Officials have not yet disclosed the total volume of items to be pulled or the timeframe for tracking distributed goods.

Salmonella contamination can cause salmonellosis, with symptoms including fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain appearing within six hours to six days.

The illness can last up to a week and may lead to hospitalization, though most people recover without treatment.

Champion Foods stated that product testing found no evidence of Salmonella in the cheese bread itself.

The company also confirmed no illnesses have been reported, emphasizing the recall was a precautionary measure.

Consumers who purchased the recalled cheese bread should not eat it. Costco customers can return the product to local warehouses for a full refund.
