The Office for Product Safety and Standards announced a critical recall on May 28, 2026, for the Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix Slide Pro Base child car seat due to a malfunctioning safety indicator that could lead to injuries.

Regulators warned that the mechanism intended to confirm secure installation may erroneously show a green signal even when the seat is not fully locked into the base.

This non-compliance with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 means the seat could move or detach during use, potentially hurting the child inside.

The recall affects black bases manufactured in China between September 6, 2025, and March 24, 2026, with item reference number 8065057110.

Consumers should check the 10-digit reference number and manufacturing date on a white label on the underside of the base using the brand's online lookup tool.

"The product presents a risk of injuries because the indicator, which shows whether the seat is correctly fitted, may display ‘green’ even when the car seat is not fully attached to the base," stated the Office for Product Safety and Standards.

The government safety body urged immediate action from owners to prevent potential accidents.

"As a result, a user may believe the seat is properly connected when it is not.

This could cause the seat to move or detach, potentially injuring the occupant," the office added.

Maxi-Cosi initiated the voluntary recall following internal quality assessments.

"Your child’s safety drives every decision we make at Maxi-Cosi, and in keeping with our deep dedication to you and your family, we want to make you aware of a voluntary recall affecting your product," the company stated.

The manufacturer discovered the mechanical issue during routine product evaluations.

"During a recent user test conducted as part of our continuous improvement efforts to enhance ease of use, we identified a potential misuse scenario involving a visual indicator on our new Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix base.

We have initiated a voluntary product recall as part of our ongoing commitment to the highest possible standards of child safety, product quality, and ease of use," Maxi-Cosi said.

Consumer advocacy groups expressed deep concern.

"It is incredibly concerning that Maxi-Cosi is recalling this car seat base due to a risk that it could cause the seat to move or detach during use," said Sue Davies, Which?

head of consumer protection policy.

Davies advised parents to use online tools to verify their equipment status immediately.

"Anyone with a Maxi-Cosi car seat can use the brand’s online tool to check if their car seat is affected, and if so, they should stop using it immediately," she said.

The advocacy group demanded a thorough investigation into the manufacturing defect.

"Maxi-Cosi and its suppliers must urgently investigate how this has happened and ensure the necessary safeguards are in place to prevent potentially unsafe products from reaching consumers in future," Davies added.
