South Wales Police have launched an investigation after a stolen JCB was driven into a restaurant on Countisbury Avenue in Llanrumney.

Investigators confirmed that the machinery had been stolen from a farm in St Mellons.

“Extensive enquiries are on-going to establish the circumstances and any motive,” said Inspector Meg Butler of South Wales Police.

The event has generated significant discussion in the local area. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Understandably there is a lot of speculation within the community about this incident,” Inspector Butler added.

“We would ask anyone with information, no matter how small it might seem, to please contact us directly or Crimestoppers anonymously,” Inspector Butler said.

In a separate incident, a major overnight search at Cefn Sidan beach in Carmarthenshire was called off.

The coastguard and police searched the shoreline after reports of two individuals in distress on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Dyfed-Powys Police reviewed the information and found no risk of harm. The search concluded without locating anyone.

“No further calls of concern have been received, and no missing persons have been reported in the area,” a police spokesperson said.
