NBC has canceled nine television shows, including sophomore crime drama The Hunting Party, as part of a significant content overhaul ahead of the 2026-27 broadcasting calendar.

The network announced the decisions as television networks prepare their upcoming lineups this spring.

The scheduling changes will result in a heavily modified lineup for viewers. According to network reports, NBC plans to shift its focus significantly toward sports content moving forward.

Network Strategy and Cancellation Details

Jeff Bader, NBCUniversal's President of Program Planning Strategy, discussed the future of the network schedule last month while addressing the performance of its linear programming lineup.

"We're looking for places where we can grow the network, and that is a time period where we think we can do better," Bader said.

Network officials initially considered keeping The Hunting Party on the broadcast network for a third season or moving it to the Peacock streaming service.

Executives ultimately rejected both options after completing financial evaluations.

"Nothing negative about Hunting Party, but for our linear schedule, we absolutely need to try and do a little bit better there," Bader added.

Universal Television, the studio behind the FBI procedural drama starring Melissa Roxburgh, is currently attempting to secure a new placement for the series.

The studio hopes to transition the program to another broadcast network or a streaming platform.

The cancellation sweep also affected multiple daytime and late-night programs.

The network ended three of its talk shows earlier this year, including the long-running programs Access Hollywood, which aired for 30 seasons, and its companion show Access Daily.

The Kelly Clarkson Show will also conclude its run after seven seasons on the air.

Representatives noted that the host chose to depart the program to allocate more time to her children.

Additionally, the talk show Karamo will conclude after a five-season run following host Karamo Brown's departure from his role on the series Queer Eye.

The Steve Wilkos Show is also wrapping up its 19-season run this year, though the program will continue to broadcast in syndication next fall.

The network furthermore canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds after two seasons.

According to a report by Deadline, the series, which starred Zachary Quinto, recorded the lowest ratings among all dramas on the linear lineup.

The freshman comedy series Stumble was also removed from the schedule after just one season despite achieving a 96% fan approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
