Dutch electricity grid operator Tennet has appointed former Shell Netherlands director Frans Everts as its new chief executive officer, the company announced on Monday.
Everts, who recently left Shell after a 37-year career, will officially succeed Manon van Beek on November 1, whose second term ends this year.

The appointment comes as Tennet faces mounting pressure to expand the power grid quickly enough to connect new businesses and residential areas amid accelerating electrification plans driven by geopolitical conflicts.
In a press release, Tennet stated that the current expansion difficulties require strong strategic leadership, execution power, and close cooperation with partners across Europe.
The company highlighted Everts' deep knowledge of the energy transition and his experience managing large organizations in complex, rapidly changing environments.

Everts previously managed Shell Energy in North America and oversaw global communications before becoming director of Shell Netherlands in April 2023.
While at Shell, he frequently advocated for the competitive position of Dutch industry by pointing out high electricity prices—a debate where he will now represent the grid operator's perspective.
Meanwhile, Thomas de Boer will succeed Everts at Shell Netherlands.
