Florida Authorities Investigate Death of Parris Island Drill Instructor

A Marine Corps drill instructor assigned to Parris Island was found dead on Saturday, May 30, inside a hotel room in Starke, Florida.

The Bradford County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of Sgt. Albert Haynes II, 24.

Haynes was on temporary additional duty conducting a poolee function event with Recruiting Station Jacksonville, according to depot officials.

Authorities stated that no foul play is suspected. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Haynes, a native of Austin, Pennsylvania, was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. He was married with no children, according to military records.

His military occupational specialties included field artillery cannoneer and drill instructor. He completed training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and the Drill Instructor School at Parris Island.

During his service, Haynes earned two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.

The Marine Corps is cooperating fully with local authorities in the investigation.
