Community Rallies for Safe Return
Nancy and Keith Higginbotham, the missing student's parents, released a video message on June 2 thanking the community for support and viral social media outreach.
"We truly feel them," the parents said, referring to thoughts and prayers from supporters.
They emphasized that online shares remain crucial for expanding awareness, especially among residents in Japan.
"Every time that you guys repost on social media, it's an opportunity for somebody in Japan to see it," the family said.
The parents remain hopeful that their son will be located safely.
"Our ultimate goal is for people in Japan to see Weston's face so that they can report back to us," they said.
They credited the public for keeping the search active.

"We're continuing to get closer and closer to finding him," the family said, adding they are confident he will be found due to collective efforts.
Robert Holt, Higginbotham's grandfather, described his daughter as doing everything possible. He noted that the young man recently completed an Ironman triathlon and has strong navigation skills.
"Try to assure them that they're not alone—that they have a whole lot of people—and most importantly, they've got God," Holt said during the gathering.
He added that the family relies heavily on their faith as they await updates.
Clay Farrington, a long-time family friend who attended the vigil, described Higginbotham as a smart, kind, and respectful athlete.
"Keith and Nancy and Grayton, we love y'all," Farrington said, directly addressing the missing student: "Weston, if you see this, buddy, love y'all.
Can't wait to see y'all back in Birmingham."
