A 13-year-old girl died on Sunday evening after disappearing in the River Wharfe near Burnsall in the Yorkshire Dales.
This incident marks one of at least 15 water-related fatalities reported across the United Kingdom during the recent record-breaking May heatwave.

Emergency services responded to reports of the missing teenager at approximately 6:30 p. m.
BST, according to North Yorkshire Police.
Although members of the public pulled her from the water and an air ambulance transported her to a hospital, authorities confirmed she later passed away.
The police department stated that they would not be releasing the identity of the deceased teenager at this time.
"Our thoughts remain with her family at this very distressing time and we ask members of the public and the media to respect the family's privacy and allow them to grieve in peace," said a spokesman for North Yorkshire Police.
The agency also expressed gratitude toward individuals who attempted to assist the young victim before medical crews arrived.
"Our thanks go to the members of the public who helped at the scene," the spokesman added.
Local leadership expressed condolences following the drowning in the popular Wharfedale outdoor activity destination located north of Skipton.

"This morning all my thoughts, prayers and wishes are with the family of the young girl who died in Burnsall yesterday," said Julian Smith, MP for Skipton and Ripon.
The member of parliament also praised the community members and emergency personnel who aided the weekend operation.
"I was so sorry and sad to hear this horrific and devastating news," Smith said.
The incident coincides with numerous accidental drownings across the country fueled by unusually hot weather that has attracted crowds to open-water swimming locations.
In South Yorkshire, emergency teams entered a third day on Monday searching Ferry Boat Lane in Mexborough for an 11-year-old boy who entered the River Don on Saturday evening and vanished.
Other recent casualties include Chiedza Nyanjowa, 15, who died Saturday after swimming at Formby Beach in Merseyside on Bank Holiday Monday, and a 19-year-old man who drowned at Balderton Lake in Nottinghamshire.
Additionally, a woman in her 60s died Saturday at Thornton Cleveleys while trying to save her dog, leaving a man in his 60s in critical condition.

Authorities also recovered bodies from incidents in the Norfolk Broads, West Yorkshire, Cornwall, Hampshire, Warwickshire, Pembrokeshire, and Lincolnshire.
