A male suspect was shot and killed by Surrey police officers on Friday afternoon after allegedly stabbing two people near Holland Park in Surrey, British Columbia.

One victim died, and another was injured.

According to the Surrey Police Service, officers responded to a report of an assault at a building in the 13300-block of Old Yale Road around 1 p.

m. PT. They found two victims with stab wounds, but the suspect had fled.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.

Suspect Located and Shot

Police found the male suspect a short distance away. A confrontation occurred, and officers fired their service pistols, seriously injuring the man.

He later died at a hospital.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO), British Columbia's civilian-led police oversight agency, said the suspect was identified by witnesses as involved in the assaults.

The IIO is investigating whether police committed any criminal offenses and can recommend charges upon completion.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is handling the investigation into the fatal stabbing. Both agencies are asking witnesses to contact them.
