Dutch police arrested a 35-year-old man from Oss on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in connection with the death of a youth soccer leader.

The victim, a 47-year-old Berghem resident, was found dead in a ditch in Herpen, North Brabant, on Friday afternoon.

Passersby discovered the body early Friday afternoon. The victim served as a youth leader at soccer club Berghem Sport.

Authorities launched a criminal investigation. Forensic teams and investigators secured evidence and analyzed local surveillance footage at the cordoned-off location.

An initial 33-year-old suspect from Berghem was detained on Friday but was released after the investigation cleared him of any involvement.

Police noted that the wrongfully accused man is no longer a suspect in the ongoing homicide case.

"We krijgen signalen dat er een foto van deze man rondgaat en roepen met klem op om die niet te verspreiden," said the police, urging the public not to share a photo of the released suspect.

The exact circumstances surrounding the victim's death remain unclear. Law enforcement is expanding their search by reviewing additional surveillance footage from the surrounding neighborhood.

Following the tragedy, Berghem Sport canceled all scheduled home matches for Saturday.
