Carmel Cinemas officially reopened on June 5, 2026, under new ownership by Box Office Cinemas.

The theater, located at 150 Route 52 in the Carmel ShopRite Plaza, marks the return of a local entertainment staple in Putnam County.

The reopening comes a little over a year after the previous operators closed the business in May 2025.

Many longtime employees have returned, and popular programs like senior discounts and Discount Tuesdays will continue.

Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne visited the facility on opening day to meet with the new manager and congratulate the staff.

He expressed happiness that many former employees came back and that discount programs remain in place.

Byrne also discussed potential future partnerships with theater management, including sensory-friendly screenings for children on the autism spectrum and families with special needs through the county's ThinkDIFFERENTLY initiative.

The reopening follows widespread disappointment from local residents when the previous owners announced the closure in April 2025 after 15 years of operation.

The theater's final day under the old management was May 29, 2025.

Opening weekend film offerings include "Backrooms," "Masters of the Universe," "The Mandalorian and Grogu," and "Scary Movie 6."
