London Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing of Musician Talay Riley

The Metropolitan Police have launched a homicide investigation after Grammy-winning British singer-songwriter Mark Orabiyi, known professionally as Talay Riley, died following a double stabbing in Silvertown, east London.

Emergency responders discovered the 35-year-old musician with fatal injuries around 9:00 a. m.

on Friday, June 5, 2026, in a residential garden on Rayleigh Road. The attack was initially reported on nearby Pankhurst Avenue.

Paramedics pronounced Orabiyi dead at the scene.

A second victim, a male in his 20s, survived multiple stab wounds and remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation and Detentions

Detectives detained three individuals in connection with the attack.

A 27-year-old man has been released on bail, while a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman face no further action.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke said: "Our investigation continues at pace.

I would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident to speak to police."

Authorities are particularly interested in CCTV or other footage from the morning of the incident. The Specialist Crime Command is overseeing the active homicide inquiry.

Industry Mourning

Orabiyi created tracks for global stars including Dua Lipa, Britney Spears, Khalid, Zendaya, and H.E. R.

Following the tragedy, numerous musicians expressed condolences. Rapper Wretch 32 posted: "Your brother was a gem & will be missed & never forgotten."

Craig David, Paloma Faith, and hip-hop artist Chip, who scored a chart-topping hit co-written by Orabiyi, shared their shock.

Stormzy commented: "I'm sorry bro."

Kehlani wrote: "Big hugs Scribs I'm so sorry," and Khalid added: "I'm so sorry bro … I'm sending you so much love."

Former X-Factor participant Oritse Williams and Sugababes member Keisha Buchanan also offered public prayers.

Orabiyi's brother, producer Michael "Scribz" Riley, said: "He loved deeply, gave freely, and touched countless people through his talent, kindness, and spirit."

The family described him as "a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend" who brought "love, light and joy" to those who knew him.

They added: "We will always cherish his kindness, beautiful spirit and remarkable talent. His presence touched many lives, and his memory will remain in our hearts forever."
