Emergency services were called to Maldon Road in Tiptree at 6:30 a. m.

on May 21 after a black Ford Ka struck Canty while he was cycling. The driver allegedly fled the scene.

An 18-year-old male driver was later located and arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and failing to stop.

"He remains under investigation and our enquiries continue," a police spokesman said.

Essex Police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to contact them, quoting incident 174 of May 21.

Canty had won a £1 million jackpot in May 2020, just days after performing CPR on a collapsed police officer.

He was traveling home from work when the officer, who had just finished his shift, collapsed. Canty administered CPR with guidance from a 999 operator.

The officer was airlifted to hospital and spent five days in intensive care. Canty stayed in touch with the family, delivering fruit and flowers.

After his win, Canty called the officer, who said: "Good karma happens to good people."

Canty and his partner, Katie Sullivan, celebrated the win but he vowed to keep his job as a water supply engineer.
