Overnight roadworks on the M25 have overrun, causing severe traffic delays of up to 45 minutes on Friday morning, June 5, 2026.

A major section of the motorway remains closed with no immediate reopening time.

The anti-clockwise stretch between junction 27 and junction 25 in Enfield is completely shut down.

This has resulted in six miles of congestion on the approach, with gridlock extending up to 10 miles according to Google Maps data.

Digital mapping software suggested a potential reopening time of 11:30 AM, but National Highways has not confirmed this.

Traffic authorities noted that unexpected complications caused the maintenance work to bleed into daytime commuting hours.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, these works have overrun their scheduled time. There is no estimate for reopening."

The official communications channel reiterated that the closure would remain until the site is cleared.

Weekend Maintenance Schedule

This disruption follows a series of scheduled maintenance closures planned across the M25 network for the weekend.

Drivers are advised to allocate extra travel time and use designated diversion routes.

The ongoing weekend schedule includes a clockwise closure between junctions 23 and 25, as well as junctions 8 and 9, and the anti-clockwise section from junction 27 to 25.

These are scheduled for Friday from 11 PM to 6 AM, though the anti-clockwise stretch is set to reopen at 5:30 AM.

Additional Friday night closures will affect the clockwise lanes at junction 3 between slip roads, and the link road connecting junction 30 to the A13 eastbound Stifford Interchange.

On Saturday, June 6, the anti-clockwise entry slip road at junction 31 and the clockwise Dartford Crossing QEII Bridge will close from 10:30 PM to 5:30 AM.

Closures between junctions 15 and 16, and junctions 27 and 28 will run from 10 PM to 5:30 AM.

Further weekend disruptions on Saturday include the anti-clockwise route from junction 27 to the M11 northbound and southbound at junction 6 between 10 PM and 6 AM.
