A shooting on Wednesday evening in the parking lot of Fairfield High School left one person dead and three others wounded, according to California authorities.
The incident occurred after a graduation ceremony for Sem Yeto Continuation High School, which shares the campus with Fairfield High School in Fairfield, a North Bay suburb between San Francisco and Sacramento.

Police responded to the scene at approximately 7:15 p. m.
on the 200 block of East Atlantic Avenue.
Officials confirmed the casualties but have not released the identities of the victims or the medical conditions of the survivors.
Three of the victims are believed to be students.
Officer Michelle Belyea, a Fairfield Police Department spokesperson, told local news outlets that there were four victims of gunshot wounds.
One is deceased, and three others are receiving treatment at local hospitals.

Belyea described the incident as a very scary event, especially occurring during a school event, and urged community safety.
School district officials acknowledged the shooting and stated they are collaborating with emergency responders.
Ilana Israel Samuels, the district's executive director of communications, said the violence took place after the graduation ceremonies had ended.
Samuels added that law enforcement is on campus and the investigation is active, with updates to be provided as more information becomes available.
Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez initially posted on social media that three students were shot during an active shooter chase but later amended the post to refer to the victims as individuals.
Local residents reported hearing multiple gunshots and believed a single juvenile gunman was responsible, according to statements given to the Daily Republic.

Law enforcement has not released any suspect or vehicle descriptions. The investigation continued late Wednesday night, and police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
