A powerful storm system swept through the Kansas City metropolitan area early Monday morning, triggering a Tornado Warning for Clay County, Missouri, that remained in effect until 2:15 a.

The Storm Prediction Center placed the metro area and regions to the south under a level two out of five severe weather risk.

According to KCTV5, the active First Warn alert warned of multiple hazards, including potential tornadoes, tennis ball-size hail, and wind gusts up to 70 mph.

Local authorities advised residents to activate emergency mobile alerts, sleep away from windows, and have a tornado shelter plan ready.

In addition to the tornadic threat, low-level flooding and water ponding were possible across affected areas overnight and into the early morning.

Conditions are expected to improve Monday, with mostly sunny, dry, and muggy weather and high temperatures reaching the mid-80s.

Meteorologists noted that humidity will decrease Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing comfortable, partly cloudy conditions.

However, rain and storm chances are forecast to return by Thursday, with a 40% probability of wet weather persisting through the weekend.
