The distinct weather events triggered localized emergencies, cutting off electricity to utility customers and altering travel conditions across both regions.

Virginia Power Outages

In Virginia, an evening storm knocked out power for more than 11,000 residents on Wednesday night, as reported by local utility providers.

Amherst County suffered the most severe impact, experiencing a significant concentration of utility failures that disrupted households and businesses.

Appalachian Power reported that 3,580 of its customers in Amherst County were without electricity as of 10 p.

m. Wednesday.

The company's outage map also indicated that nearly 130 customers in Bedford County and 200 customers in Campbell County lost power due to the storm system.

Dominion Energy reported that just over 5,600 of its customers faced power outages on Wednesday night following the sweeping storm.

According to information posted on its website, Appalachian Power estimated that electricity would be fully restored to the affected customers in Amherst County by 5 p.

Storm in Southern England

Across the Atlantic, a separate late-night storm brought heavy rain, loud thunder, and large hailstones to the Bournemouth area in England.

The weather event dominated the skies over Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole for more than an hour as severe conditions moved northward across the region.

The storm over Dorset began around 11 p. m.

and extended into the early hours of Thursday, making the area one of the few locations along the south coast to experience the full force of the late-night event.

Local residents recorded sheet and flash lightning, sharing visual footage of the heavy rainfall and repeated lightning on platforms like TikTok and Facebook.

The active weather system brought a dramatic conclusion to the night for many residents across the region before moving away from the south coast.

The storm system subsequently tracked north toward Ringwood, Verwood, Salisbury, and North Dorset.
