H Michael "Mike" Casper, a retired teacher who spent three decades in the Lake Superior School District, died unexpectedly at his home in Silver Bay, Minnesota, on May 1, 2026.
He was 72.

The cause was a sudden health event, according to the North Shore Journal.
Casper moved to the area from White Bear Lake and became a familiar face in local classrooms.
Beyond teaching, he was known for his musical talents, performing as a vocalist and guitarist in several bands.
He was an avid environmentalist, angler, and book collector. Casper was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Marlene Casper.
He is survived by seven siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and his cat, Sam, who has been placed in a new home.

Two celebrations of life are scheduled. The first will be held on Friday, June 26, from 3 p.

m. at the Finland Community Center near Silver Bay, with food provided.
The second gathering will take place on Thursday, July 9, from 3 p. m.
to 7 p. m.
at the Casey Lake Pavilion in North St. Paul, featuring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.

The family requests that memorial donations be directed to Save The Boundary Waters in Ely, Minnesota, to honor Casper's dedication to the environment.
