The United States Bureau of Prisons transferred convicted serial rapist and former NFL player Darren Sharper to a community confinement program in Baltimore on May 27.

The 50-year-old former safety is now serving his sentence either in home confinement or at a residential re-entry center, commonly known as a halfway house.

Federal officials said Sharper has a projected release date of December 27, 2028, indicating he is nearing the completion of his 18-year prison term.

The Bureau of Prisons did not disclose the specific location of the facility due to safety, privacy, and security regulations.

Background of the Case

In August 2016, U. S.

District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo sentenced Sharper after he pleaded guilty or no contest to drugging and raping women across four states: Louisiana, California, Nevada, and Arizona.

The court gave him credit for time served since his arrest in February 2014.

During sentencing, Sharper expressed remorse, but one victim rejected his apology in the courtroom.

The case drew national attention due to Sharper's status as a high-profile athlete who won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints in 2010 and earned multiple All-Pro selections before retiring in 2011.

His co-defendants, former waiter Erik Nunez and former sheriff's deputy Brandon Licciardi, completed their sentences in July 2023 and April, respectively.

Prior to the transfer, Sharper's defense attorneys requested a sentence reduction, citing his educational courses and medical needs from football-related brain injuries.

Judge Milazzo denied the request in August.
