Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly has condemned an attempted murder knife attack that occurred in Belfast on June 9, 2026.
She stated that the public feels sickened by the incident.

Official Response and Coordination
The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) official moved quickly to address the community response and interface with law enforcement and government officials following the violence.
Little-Pengelly has communicated directly with Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Chief Constable Jon Boutcher and Stormont Justice Minister Naomi Long.
She emphasized the necessity of maintaining transparent updates for the community.

"There can be no excuses and no tolerance for such violence," said Emma Little-Pengelly.
Amid rising community tensions following the stabbing, the Deputy First Minister urged local residents to remain cooperative with law enforcement officials as the primary investigation proceeds.
"I know emotions are running high - there is anger and concern but I do urge everyone to remain calm to allow the police to carry out their investigation and allow people to establish the full facts," she said.

In addition to local coordination, Little-Pengelly contacted the prime minister to secure immediate data sharing regarding the suspect currently in custody for the stabbing, as reported by the BBC.
