The Police Service of Northern Ireland arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of attempted murder following a knife attack outside an apartment complex on Kinnaird Avenue in north Belfast.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:30 p. m.

BST on Monday, June 8, 2026, leaving a man in his 40s hospitalized in serious condition with significant injuries to his face, neck, and back.
Emergency responders from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service arrived at the scene after a 999 call at 22:39 BST.
Paramedics provided initial treatment before transporting the victim to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Local residents used a hurling stick to confront the attacker and save the victim before officers arrived within minutes.
The suspect is believed to be Somali and remains in police custody as a critical incident investigation continues to establish a motive.
Political Leaders Condemn Attack
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer led political condemnations of the street violence, expressing gratitude toward the citizens and first responders who intervened.
“The horrific attack in Belfast last night is sickening,” Starmer said.

Northern Ireland Justice Minister Naomi Long praised the individuals who disarmed the suspect and warned against spreading traumatic media online.
“I would ask people not to share the very graphic images and footage of the attack,” Long said.
First Minister Michelle O'Neill confirmed she spoke with the PSNI chief constable and requested that the public give detectives adequate space to complete their work.
“My thoughts are with the injured man and all those who responded at the scene,” O'Neill said.
Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly strongly condemned the stabbing as a targeted act of hatred that violates community safety standards.
“This act of hatred has no place in our society, and certainly no place on the streets of Northern Ireland,” Little-Pengelly said.
Police Service of Northern Ireland Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson declared the stabbing a critical incident and urged the public to refrain from sharing graphic online footage of the confrontation.

“This brutal attack will have sent shockwaves through the community causing real concern,” Henderson said.
