Presenter Tim Hofman shared a final farewell with 24-year-old participant Marit shortly before her death from metastatic bone cancer.

The emotional moment was featured in the season finale of the television program Over Mijn Lijk, broadcast on Sunday evening, June 7, 2026, on NPO 1.

Marit passed away on December 12, 2025, just days after the off-camera conversation took place.

Her health declined rapidly following her wedding to her partner, Mackenzie, as the cancer metastasized and impacted her heart, leading to severe fluid retention and intense pain.

The symptoms of her illness first appeared three years ago as pain in her knee and upper leg, which led to a diagnosis of aggressive bone cancer that later spread to her lungs.

Before her final meeting with the presenter, Marit requested a visit after receiving strong pain medication from her doctor.

Mackenzie met Hofman at the front door to explain her deteriorating condition and her wish to speak with everyone before her state worsened further.

"It has gone very fast over the last few days," said Mackenzie, husband of Marit.

He noted that she was using a morphine pump and experiencing occasional hallucinations, which prompted her desire to talk while she still felt like herself.

"Nu zit ze aan een morfinepomp en daardoor hallucineert ze soms.

Daarom wil ze iedereen nog even spreken, voordat ze naar eigen zeggen zichzelf niet meer is," explained Mackenzie.

When asked by the presenter if she would make it to the end of the week, Mackenzie expressed his fear of losing her.

"I hope she makes it, because I don't want to lose her," said Mackenzie.

Hofman stated during the visit that he wished for her to find peace rather than continue to suffer in such a weakened state.

Marit requested that their final conversation happen without television cameras present because she disliked how her physical appearance had changed.

"I don't like it like this," said Marit, participant of Over Mijn Lijk.

Despite her terminal condition, she expressed a sense of relief regarding her upcoming death rather than fear. "I find it quite liberating actually," said Marit.

When the presenter questioned her about her thoughts on the afterlife and what happens after death, she expressed a positive outlook.

"Yes, I am quite enthusiastic. I will just see where we are going," said Marit.

She remained optimistic about what lay ahead during her final days. "It might even be fun," said Marit.

Hofman concluded their meeting by expressing gratitude for her openness during their previous discussions throughout the season. "Thank you for all the openness.

I have enjoyed our conversations and I will often look at your tattoo. Then I say goodbye to you," said Tim Hofman, presenter of Over Mijn Lijk.

The season finale also provided updates on other participants, including 27-year-old teacher Koen, who underwent two surgeries for a brain tumor and has since married his partner Bionda, with whom he shares a son.

Over Mijn Lijk airs weekly on Sundays at 9:15 p. m.
