The victim, a campus safety officer in his 50s, was struck by a crossbow bolt.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before an air ambulance transported him to a London hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

In addition to attempted murder, Daqamah faces charges of possessing an offensive weapon, two bladed articles, and Class B drugs.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Guildford Magistrates' Court.

Police conducted door-to-door inquiries across the student village following the attack, which left many students shaken.

"The police were knocking on everyone's doors. We're all very shaken.

It's a very close community here," said Liv Harvey, a paramedic science student.

Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen reassured the community that the danger had been contained and that there was no evidence of a terror-related motive.

"We know how concerning this incident is, both for the University community and for local residents here in Guildford, and our officers are working at pace to establish the full circumstances," Groenen said.

He added that officers were not looking for any other suspects and urged the public to refrain from online speculation to protect the integrity of the investigation.

A University of Surrey spokesperson confirmed that their colleague is in stable condition and expressed relief across the community.
