The suspension will impact routes nationwide for a two-month period beginning August 5 and ending October 5, as reported by tucson.

Eight specific routes are affected by the schedule changes, primarily connecting Southern California to cities in the Midwest and East Coast, alongside service adjustments out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The suspended routes include flights from Los Angeles to Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh, and Washington Dulles, as well as routes from Charlotte to Ontario and Sacramento.
Additionally, American Airlines is pausing its route from Phoenix to Jacksonville, Florida, and shortening its seasonal summer service between Phoenix and Anchorage, Alaska, to end on August 15 instead of September.
Jet fuel represents one of the largest financial burdens for carriers, accounting for 25 to 30 percent of total operating costs according to the International Air Transport Association.
The global energy market disruptions caused by the conflict in Iran have prompted widespread airline industry responses, including ticket price hikes, fuel surcharges, and capacity reductions from international carriers like Delta, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and Lufthansa.

In Arizona, the route changes coincide with a 25 percent year-over-year increase in round-trip airfares out of Phoenix, alongside higher checked bag fees introduced by American Airlines, according to data from the travel website Hopper.
Impacted passengers will be provided with alternative travel arrangements or financial recourse according to corporate guidelines.
"American is not suspending any routes indefinitely as part of this adjustment," said a spokesperson in a statement to CBS News.
The airline emphasized that the service reductions are temporary measures intended solely for late-summer network optimization.
"American is not suspending any routes indefinitely as part of this adjustment and will continue to proudly offer an industry-leading network with more flights than any other U.
S. airline," stated American Airlines in a separate release to The Arizona Republic.
