Initial reports of the aviation incident emerged at approximately 4:30 a. m.
, according to local sources.
Nearby eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions before observing a search and rescue helicopter hovering over the site.
Devon and Cornwall Police initiated a closure on the A386 at around 5:00 a. m.
The closure affected the stretch between the A30 at Sourton Down and the A3079 Fowley Cross.
Authorities also shut down the A30 Sourton Cross slip road and services area as investigations continued.

Devon and Cornwall Police released details regarding the deployment of emergency personnel via social media channels shortly after 7:00 a.
m.
"Emergency services are at the scene after a crash involving a helicopter in a field at Sourton Down," the police stated.
The department noted that the situation required ongoing management at the crash site.
