Showrunner Sam Levinson confirmed that the third season of Euphoria serves as the series finale. The final episode aired on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The concluding episode, titled "In God We Trust," featured a narrative shift where Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, is killed with fentanyl-laced painkillers.

The character is killed by pimp Alamo Brown, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, after he discovers she is an undercover operative.

The final season drew divided reactions from viewers.

Some online critics noted that primary cast members had outgrown the high school drama after production gaps spanning from earlier seasons in 2019 and 2022.

Cast member Toby Wallace, who joined the HBO drama as a neo-Nazi drug dealer named Wayne, stated that the stylistic and structural changes were intentional.

"I remember walking on to their season going like 'okay this is definitely a little bit of a different show, like it feels different'," Wallace said.

The actor explained that the production team deliberately avoided replicating the specific atmosphere of the initial seasons.

"I don't think you can really treat it as exactly the same vibe as the last two seasons, because it's not in a lot of ways," Wallace said.

Wallace expressed appreciation for Levinson's writing style. "He [Levinson] always wants to recreate and build something original," Wallace said.

The actor further praised the series for its non-judgmental approach to complex themes involving youth, isolation, and addiction.

"He's created this thing like his writing never, it feels like it never judges people," Wallace said.

Wallace also detailed his experience working alongside Zendaya. "[She's] unbelievably professional, she's incredibly present," Wallace said.

The actor noted how the lead actress managed intense emotional transitions while embodying her character.

"The way that she runs from emotion to emotion and the way she just knows that character so well it's insane to be around," Wallace said.

The final broadcast also incorporated a tribute to former cast member Angus Cloud, who passed away from an accidental drug overdose in 2023.

The tribute utilized archived test footage filmed alongside Zendaya.

"For me personally I found Angus's performance in the TV show to really inspirational," Wallace said.

"He was just so himself in the show, and I thought, especially by season two, he carried so much of it, and I just loved him as an actor," Wallace added.
