The decision brings a definitive end to the Gen-Z era production that launched several cast members into stardom.
The third season generated record viewership for Warner Bros. Discovery while drawing severe criticism for its graphic depictions of sex, drug abuse, and violence.

The final chapter featured major narrative closures, including the permanent departures of leading characters portrayed by Zendaya and Jacob Elordi.
Series creator Sam Levinson stated, "In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me."
Levinson added, "It's a tragic one in the end — but it's also the truth. If you are experimenting or taking drugs today, it's very possible it'll kill you."
The Season 3 premiere drew more than 12.3 million viewers in the United States, a 68 percent increase from the Season 2 premiere.
