A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming until 9 p. m.
on Saturday. Affected locations include Rapid City, Faith, Custer, Pine Ridge, and parts of Weston County.
Wind gusts up to 70 mph and large hail are the primary hazards.
The storm system moving through Rapid City is expected to congeal into a line, bringing localized threats of bowing segments.
An initial brief tornado risk is decreasing.
Residents have been advised to secure loose patio items and outdoor objects before the system exits around 2 a.
m.
Sunday will bring additional severe weather, though less widespread and mainly north and east of Rapid City. Storms are projected to develop around 1 p.
m. in Butte County and move from near Sheridan into central regions by evening.

Rainfall of half an inch or more is expected along and north of Interstate 90.
The active weather pattern is forecast to persist into next week due to cool air aloft and a western low-pressure system.
A low-pressure trough will swing through by Wednesday, followed by another system on Thursday bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, southeastern South Dakota faces its own severe threats.
Isolated severe storms capable of large hail and damaging winds are anticipated for Sioux Falls and surrounding areas, prompting a First Alert Weather Day.
The threat shifts toward central and western South Dakota by Tuesday.
A Level 2 risk of severe weather is established for far western sections, and a Level 1 risk covers Pierre, Winner, and Gettysburg.
Forecasters warn that all weather hazards will be possible during this Tuesday outbreak.
Following the storms, temperatures are expected to rise significantly as more sunlight enters the region.
