Atmospheric instability and high moisture levels fueled the storms, which primarily targeted southeastern Saskatchewan including Kindersley, Swift Current, Val Marie, and areas south of Saskatoon and Regina.

Storm Risk Extends into Monday

Meteorologists forecast that the storm risk will extend into Monday as a western atmospheric trough shifts moisture into Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba.

This creates a more uniform threat of severe weather across those regions.

Localized rainfall amounts could exceed 100 mm in certain areas, delivering more than a month's worth of precipitation to communities hit by sporadic, convection-driven downpours.

The incoming wet pattern is expected to provide critical moisture to regions currently battling a rise in wildfires sparked by recent excessive heat.

Saskatchewan's Prince Albert faces threats from a 19,000-hectare wildfire in nearby Shellbrook that prompted local evacuations.

Lightning-induced blazes also affected Lac La Biche, Alberta.

Emergency declarations are active in Conklin within Alberta's Wood Buffalo region and for the Cree Nation in Norway House, Saskatchewan.
