A teenage competitor was arrested Saturday after three horses were intentionally injured with a sharp object during a barrel racing event at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to an animal injury report at a barn around 2:07 a.

Officers found three horses had been targeted, prompting an investigation by the Animal Cruelty Section.
Detectives identified a teenage girl who had access to the barn as the primary suspect. She was arrested and booked into Clark County Juvenile Hall on multiple charges.
The suspect faces 12 counts of willful/malicious kill/maim/torture animal and three counts of felony malicious destruction of private property over $5,000.

Police said the injuries are not life-threatening but are expected to prevent the horses from competing.

The incident occurred during the 2026 NBHA Professional's Choice Vegas Super Show, scheduled from Friday through Sunday.
The National Barrel Horse Association confirmed that security and police isolated the suspect quickly, ensuring no further danger at the venue.

"The individual involved has been removed and placed in the care of authorities, and there is no ongoing threat of any kind," the association said.
