A Wolverhampton resident has launched a petition calling for a second outdoor swimming pool in the city after Tettenhall Pool was packed with visitors during the late May bank holiday.
On Monday, May 25, temperatures reached 33°C, drawing hundreds of families to the free facility. Images showed crowds filling the water to escape the heat.

Petition organizer Keeley Jane, who works in the city, said the turnout highlighted the strong demand for outdoor swimming opportunities across Wolverhampton.
“This excessive demand often leaves families and individuals without access to this vital community space,” Jane said.
The petition formally requests that the council conduct a feasibility study to assess the need for additional outdoor swimming amenities.
“Such an investigation would provide insightful data about the current and projected demand for outdoor swimming venues,” Jane added.
She stressed that equal access to recreational spaces is crucial as the city’s population grows and health priorities increase.

“It’s time to ensure everyone has equal access to outdoor recreational facilities,” Jane said.
Council Response
Councillor Qaiser Azeem, Cabinet Member for Resident Services, acknowledged the public enthusiasm for Tettenhall Pool.
“We are delighted that thousands of people have enjoyed Tettenhall Pool over the bank holiday weekend,” Azeem said.
He noted that the council already provides other swimming options, including the free Splash Pad in East Park and indoor WV Active swimming pools.
