The long-shuttered Jacob Riis Park Bathhouse has completed a massive $88 million restoration project.

The 1930s beachfront structure has been transformed into a modernized waterfront complex named "The Rockaway Ocean Club."

The extensive revitalization effort was led by NYC Parks alongside private partners to balance historical preservation with modern flood-resilience infrastructure.

Originally opened in 1932, the sprawling oceanfront facility once accommodated tens of thousands of daily beachgoers.

It closed in 1972 due to severe weathering from Atlantic hurricanes and salt air.

What the Renovated Complex Offers

The newly designed boardwalk features an array of food and beverage options including coffee, juice, pizza, and gelato.

Retail shops selling beach essentials are also part of the complex.

A central courtyard is designed for public gatherings. Future expansion plans include a rooftop restaurant offering panoramic ocean views and a 28-room boutique lodging facility.

A section of the property will introduce a members-only beach club managed by operators connected to Soho House & Co. This private space features dedicated lounges and a 162-person swimming pool.

Annual membership fees range from $1,000 for local peninsula residents to $3,500 for families residing outside the immediate area.

Opening Schedule

Initial public access to select boardwalk vendors and the central courtyard is scheduled to begin over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Remaining amenities will roll out in subsequent phases.

The project marks a broader trend in Queens landmark preservation.

It coincides with a separate $56.8 million stabilization project by the city's Parks Department to restore the 1964 World's Fair New York State Pavilion in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
