Jonathan Andic, vice chair of fashion retailer Mango, has temporarily stepped down from his position after a Spanish court named him a suspect in the investigation into the death of his father, company founder Isak Andic.

The elder Andic died in December 2024 after falling over 100 meters during a mountain hike near Barcelona, according to a judicial writ reported by The Guardian.

Authorities said evidence suggests premeditated involvement by the son rather than an accident, citing text messages that indicated deep resentment over financial matters.

In a public statement, Jonathan Andic strongly denied the allegations.

“A public narrative has been constructed that is one-sided, taken out of context and distorted, and which has created a perception of guilt that bears no relation to reality,” he said.

“I know that dismantling it will require time, effort and intense dedication.”

The 45-year-old executive also rejected claims of a strained relationship with his father. “We shared many happy, cherished and loving moments together.

As is the case in so many families, we have also faced difficult and challenging times, which we have overcome through great effort, generosity and support,” he said.

Shortly after the tragedy, Jonathan Andic assumed the executive vice-presidency of the holding company in January 2025.
