Massive crowds flocked to the beaches of Scheveningen and Kijkduin on Sunday, May 24, 2026, as summer weather prompted residents to seek relief along the coast.
The municipality of The Hague reported that all parking spaces in both coastal areas were completely filled.

Traffic heavily congested the access roads leading toward Scheveningen, as reported by Omroep West.
Finding a parking spot became nearly impossible along the Strandweg, and the parking lot at the Zwarte Pad reached full capacity early on.
The municipality of The Hague issued an urgent advisory to beachgoers due to the severe parking shortage at the coastal resorts.
"Kom dus met de fiets, de deelscooter, de bus of tram," stated the municipality.
Beyond the beaches, recreational areas like the Rottemeren near Oud Verlaat also experienced a surge in visitors.
Boaters and paddleboarders packed the waterways, students held a rowing competition, and teenagers were spotted jumping off a high bridge into the water.

"Van onderen," shouted one of the boys before jumping.
The surrounding paths saw heavy traffic from cyclists, runners, and pairs of tourists wearing matching helmets. The soaring temperatures significantly impacted those exercising outdoors during the sunny afternoon.
"En mijn hoofd begint ondertussen steeds meer op een nieuwe tomatensoort te lijken," said a sweating reporter who was cycling through the area.
Heatwave to Continue
The warm spell is projected to persist for several more days across the region.
Weather forecaster Jordi Bloem reported that Monday will bring 16 hours of sunshine, with temperatures climbing between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius.
