Multiple cities and towns across Connecticut canceled or rescheduled their annual Memorial Day weekend parades due to heavy rain and inclement weather forecasts.
Municipalities including Ansonia, Bantam, Brookfield, Cheshire, Colchester, Dayville, Enfield, Ledyard, Milford, Monroe, Norwalk, Orange, Tolland, and Waterbury opted to call off their events as a storm system brought significant sustained rain and cold temperatures to the region.

Indoor Ceremonies Replace Outdoor Parades
While outdoor parades were canceled, several communities shifted their focus to indoor veterans ceremonies to ensure the holiday was still recognized safely.
The Town of Monroe canceled its parade but proceeded with its annual "Honoring our Heroes" ceremony at 2 p.
m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.
"This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country," said First Selectman Terrence P.

The City of Waterbury also altered its plans, moving its scheduled 2 p. m.
Memorial Day services to the basement of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception because of the weather.

Other towns modified their schedules entirely, such as Ansonia, which rescheduled its parade to May 31, and the Ledyard Lions Club, which postponed its parade to June 27.
