Keating was widely recognized for his role as the roguish thief Vila Restal in the science fiction series Blake's 7 and his long-running portrayal of Reverend George Stevens on the BBC soap opera EastEnders.

The publishing group Cult Edge, which handles literature for the classic space opera, first shared the news on social media, calling him a wonderful man who will be hugely missed.
Film producer Keith Barnfather of Reeltime Pictures recalled meeting Keating for a Myth Makers shoot, describing him as a fun, generous, kind spirit.
Audio producer Peter Anghelides, who worked with Keating on Big Finish Blake's 7 audio stories, said his cheery presence on studio days was always welcome and praised his comic timing.
Anghelides noted that Keating's adroit performance as Vila made the character integral to the series, despite initial plans to drop him.
