The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for several Houston-area counties starting Thursday morning, May 21, 2026, through Memorial Day.

Consecutive rounds of severe storms are expected to bring flash flooding, high winds, and two-inch hail across Texas.

The watch covers Brazoria, Galveston, Matagorda, Fort Bend, and Wharton counties until Monday morning.

Deep Gulf moisture remaining in place will drive additional rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the upper Texas coast, according to the National Weather Service.

Coastal areas in Matagorda and Brazoria counties already recorded between four and six inches of rain from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Saturated ground elevates the risks for street, stream, and river flooding as an additional four to five inches of rain could fall through Monday.

The slow-moving nature of the incoming weather disturbances makes exact daily timing difficult, forecasters noted.

Organized storm systems are expected to impact the region midday Thursday, followed by scattered morning storms on Friday and further heavy rainfall waves during the weekend.

South-Central Texas at Risk

In South-Central Texas, cities including San Antonio, Uvalde, and Fredericksburg face a level two out of four risk for flash flooding.

The National Weather Service expects the weather system to move into the southern Edwards Plateau and Rio Grande Plains, bringing potential structural wind damage and lightning.

Severe weather threats are projected to lessen as the storms move east of the Interstate 35 corridor.
