Savannah Guthrie, anchor of NBC's Today, gave an emotional update on June 8, 2026, about her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, during an episode of Today with Jenna and Sheinelle.

Guthrie returned to her broadcasting duties on April 6, roughly two months after her mother was reportedly abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona.

During the broadcast, Guthrie described the ongoing emotional burden she carries while balancing her professional and family life.

“It’s always with me,” said Guthrie.

“I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home.

And I’m grateful to have good friends and to be able to come to such a beautiful and joyous and supportive place.”

The 54-year-old anchor, who shares two young children with husband Michael Feldman, explained how she addresses the situation with her family.

“Like so many people out there, you can hold all of these things together,” added Guthrie. “I try to tell my kids that, too.

We can hold our sadness and we can hold our joy. And if you don’t believe it, just watch me.

I’m gonna show you.”

The investigation into Nancy Guthrie's abduction remains open following the February incident.

Guthrie expressed gratitude to her colleague Jenna Bush Hager for support during her return.

“First of all, I can’t really even look at you every day without crying,” Guthrie told Hager through tears.

“You are my best friend. You know, it’s really hard to come back.

I’ve been trying so hard to hold it together, and I promise I will.”

Guthrie noted that the visibility of her grief can make performing on-air duties more challenging.

“When I see you in the morning, I know that you see me, no matter what is going on,” added Guthrie.

“And sometimes that's almost too much because I feel like to do the job I gotta keep it together, pull it together.”

Despite daily difficulties, Guthrie maintained that resuming work was the correct path for her well-being.

“But I’m happy to be back,” explained Guthrie.

“It’s like the two hours of my day that—it’s not that I’m not thinking about it, because I am, but it’s something to do and it brings me a lot of joy to be with everybody.

But, no, it’s not easy.”

She addressed potential public speculation about her ability to anchor during a family crisis.

“I know maybe people wonder, ‘Whoa, what’s going on? How’s she able to do that job?

Is she not thinking about it? Did she forget?’”

continued Guthrie. “No, never.”

The segment concluded with a call for public assistance regarding the open investigation.

“We still need everybody’s prayers. I wish someone would call and say what they know and tell the truth,” reiterated Guthrie.
