A weekend surge of gun violence across Chicago left 15 people injured, including seven teenagers between the ages of 12 and 19, between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, June 7, 2026, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The shootings occurred in multiple neighborhoods, including Grand Crossing, Belmont Cragin, Chatham, Lincoln Park, North Lawndale, the Near South Side, and Bronzeville.

In Bronzeville, an unidentified gunman opened fire around 9:30 p. m.

Saturday in the 4500 block of South Prairie Avenue, hitting four boys who were hospitalized in good or fair condition.

A 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy were treated for leg wounds at Comer Children's Hospital, while a 14-year-old boy was treated there for a back graze, and another 13-year-old boy was taken to Stroger Hospital with a leg wound.

Following the Bronzeville incidents, Chicago Alderperson Pat Dowell issued a letter to constituents criticizing parents for failing to supervise their children and take responsibility for their safety.

"We need to ask ourselves as the adults in the community: Where are their parents? Where are the role models?

Why are children out at night when, quite honestly, they should be home and in bed?" Dowell said.

"How are we failing our youth? Parents must be accountable."

The alderperson also addressed local business owners, emphasizing that establishments allowing large, disorderly teen gatherings should face immediate administrative consequences.

"The attention our young people seek must be found first in the home.

Businesses that are complicit in hosting these events must be held responsible and, if necessary, closed," Dowell said.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, gunfire in the 4600 block of South Federal Street injured an 18-year-old woman who remains in critical condition with an abdominal wound, alongside a 19-year-old woman and an adult man who are in stable condition.

Other incidents overnight included a fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man in Grand Crossing, a critical injury of a 39-year-old woman in Lincoln Park, and injuries to individuals in Belmont Cragin, Chatham, North Lawndale, and the Near South Side.
