Toronto police deployed a massive security operation on Sunday, June 7, 2026, to secure the 57th annual Walk with Israel fundraiser amid rising regional tensions.

Law enforcement significantly increased its visibility along the 3.9-kilometer route following a spike in local antisemitic incidents and physical altercations at last year's event.

The walk began at the Temple Sinai Congregation of Toronto on Wilson Avenue before moving north on Bathurst Street toward the UJA Federation's Sherman Campus.

Authorities restricted traffic in the area until 4 p. m.

and arrested one woman for obstructing a police officer before the march commenced, according to a Toronto police news release.

Security Measures and Police Presence

Security measures featured specialized law enforcement personnel alongside physical barriers at major intersections.

Officers from York, Durham, Peel Regions, and the Ontario Provincial Police assisted local authorities in managing the demonstration route.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw outlined the scale of the deployment during a press briefing on Sunday.

"You will see obviously a lot of overt assets in place, wearing uniforms and many different types of uniforms, with different types of equipment.

Of course, we also have many things happening that you will not see to ensure that we keep this walk safe," said Demkiw.

The chief emphasized that police personnel focused on preventing violence and property damage throughout the day.

"Our hope is that we have a peaceful march.

It's a permanent event and we hope it goes off without incident, no injuries and it occurs peacefully," said Demkiw.

Organizers initially anticipated a high turnout similar to the 2025 event, which drew an estimated 56,000 participants.

The walk serves as a demonstration of support for Israeli citizens experiencing ongoing conflict and displacement, according to the official event website.
