Country music star Garth Brooks is exploring a potential sale of his extensive music catalog, with valuations ranging from $1 billion to over $2 billion, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

The potential transaction would encompass both his songwriting and recorded music rights, with discussions held with unidentified investors.

If finalized at the upper valuation, the deal could elevate Brooks from his current $400 million net worth to challenge the financial ranks of the world's wealthiest musicians.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Brooks has sold a record 200 million albums in the United States alone, surpassing the 183 million albums sold by The Beatles.

Music Rights Market Heats Up

The current music rights market has seen substantial acquisitions by major entertainment companies.

Sony bought Queen's publishing for $1 billion in 2024 and half of Michael Jackson's catalog for over $1 billion, following a $500 million purchase of Bruce Springsteen's works in 2021.

Financial tracking by Forbes positions Jay-Z atop the global musician wealth list with $2.53 billion, followed by Taylor Swift at $2.1 billion, Paul McCartney at $1.3 billion, Bruce Springsteen at $1.17 billion, and Rihanna at $1.03 billion.

Pop artist Beyoncé entered the billion-dollar tier earlier this year at an estimated $1 billion following the success of her country album, which placed her ahead of traditional country icons Dolly Parton at $650 million and Shania Twain at $350 million to $410 million.

The Reuters news agency was unable to immediately verify the initial report regarding the catalog discussions.

The official website for Brooks notes his musical career includes 22 Academy of Country Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, the Kennedy Center Honor, and the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize since his 1989 self-titled debut album.
