A major power outage struck several municipalities in Twente on Monday morning, June 1, 2026, leaving thousands of households and businesses without electricity and internet.
The blackout affected an estimated more than 400 postal codes across the region.

Reports of power loss came from Hengelo, Almelo, Wierden, Hellendoorn, and Borne, as well as surrounding communities.
Residents reported non-functional lighting, disabled electrical appliances, and interrupted internet connections. Local businesses also faced operational disruptions due to the sudden power loss.

Grid Operator Response
The grid operator immediately launched an investigation into the cause of the blackout and deployed technicians to restore power.
Officials estimated that recovery work would be largely completed by 12:45 p. m.
