The Dutch government conducted its bi-annual NL-Alert emergency broadcast system test on Monday afternoon, June 1, 2026.

Mobile devices across the Netherlands vibrated and emitted loud alarm signals at exactly 12:00 p. m.

The test is held regularly on the first Monday of June and December. Safety regions use these intervals to evaluate the operational reach of the emergency system.

The text message explicitly stated it was a control test. Citizens did not need to take any protective actions or contact emergency services.

The NL-Alert system serves to warn and update the public during localized or national emergencies. This includes major fires and sudden severe weather events.

According to official records, the system distributes critical instructions regarding immediate dangers. It also provides detailed safety measures that citizens should follow to secure themselves and others.

Recent deployments include emergency broadcasts during a farmhouse fire in Dwingeloo three weeks ago.

Authorities also activated the network earlier this year when a code red warning was declared due to extremely slippery road conditions.
