Thousands of coastal plants have arrived in Morecambe after being displayed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London.

The flora will form the foundation of a new community garden at the gateway to Eden Project Morecambe, a £100 million visitor destination on the Promenade scheduled to open in 2028.

Bring Me Sunshine Garden

The plants were part of the Bring Me Sunshine Garden, which won a Silver-Gilt medal and the Environmental Innovation Award at the London flower show.

Designed by Harry Holding and Alex Michaelis alongside unemployed local young adults, the garden features a solar-powered, shell-shaped canopy made of tensioned local limestone that will shelter an outdoor learning classroom.

The botanical selection includes coastal and pollinator-friendly species such as sea fennel, Allium moly, Briza media, Didiscus caeruleus, Gilia capitata, Jasione montana, Linum perenne, Tragopogon porrifolius, dill, and Gladiolus byzantinus.

Many of these specimens were originally propagated at the sister site, Eden Project Cornwall, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Lancaster City Council is supporting the initiative by ensuring the flora is carefully tended at a local nursery ahead of garden construction starting later this summer.

The extensive 1.5-acre free-to-enter community gardens are scheduled to open ahead of the main project in spring 2027.

"Being from Morecambe myself, this first step towards bringing the Eden Project to life means a great deal to me personally," said Dewey Lord, senior project manager for Eden Project Morecambe.

"Now, as the plants arrive in Morecambe ahead of installation in their permanent home in the Bring Me Sunshine Garden, I'm excited to take this project into the next phase of delivery," Lord added.
