The Supreme Court of India issued a directive on Friday, ordering all high courts across the country to deliver judgments within three months of reserving an order.

The move aims to eliminate extensive judicial delays.

The top court emphasized that prolonged legal pauses cause irreversible damage to individuals involved in lawsuits.

According to a report by the Press Trust of India, the judicial panel stressed the urgent need for faster resolutions in matters tied to personal liberty.

Immediate Verdicts on Bail Applications

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Baghchi mandated that high courts must announce verdicts on bail applications on the same day of the hearing.

If a ruling is reserved, the court must ensure it is pronounced and uploaded to the official platform by the following day.

The Supreme Court also instructed that orders granting bail or suspending a sentence must be transmitted to jail officials immediately upon pronouncement.

The bench added that undertrial individuals or convicts should ideally be released on the same day, or within a maximum of the next day.
