face legal action to recover illicit funds, with the first procedural hearing scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026.
Promes, currently detained following his extradition from Dubai last summer, will not appear in court. His defense lawyers Geert-Jan and Carry Knoops are expected to attend.
Previous Convictions
The new proceeding follows two prior criminal convictions that resulted in a combined sentence of 7.5 years in prison.
In February 2024, the court sentenced Promes to six years for involvement in trafficking over 1,300 kilograms of cocaine.
He had previously received a 1.5-year sentence for stabbing a relative at a party in Abcoude.
Promes has appealed both verdicts. The Amsterdam Court of Appeal is scheduled to hear the substantive cases later this year.
During a preliminary hearing in March, Promes confessed to the stabbing incident after his defense team took over the case from attorney Cem Polat.

"In those hectic circumstances, Promes stabbed once with a potato peeler," said Carry Knoops, referring to the chaotic situation outside the party where the player was reportedly attacked.
Despite admitting to the assault, Promes continues to deny any involvement in the cocaine smuggling operations.
His defense team noted that the athlete experienced profound fear and anger toward the Dutch justice system, feeling unjustly portrayed as a criminal, which initially caused his refusal to testify.
According to Geert-Jan Knoops, the prosecution deliberately allowed his client to travel abroad to build their investigation.
Promes was later arrested forcefully in Dubai with a bag over his head and interrogated for days regarding matters the defense claims he had nothing to do with.
The defense team indicated that Promes is now willing to provide statements regarding the drug charges, provided that the hearings take place behind closed doors.

The court has repeatedly denied multiple requests for his provisional release due to a high flight risk, ending any prospects for his return to professional soccer.
