Comedian Dana Carvey revealed on his Fly on the Wall podcast that a sixth Shrek film is currently in development, alongside the upcoming fifth installment.

The news comes from franchise star Mike Myers, who reportedly shared the plans during a private conversation with Carvey.

Two More Films in the Works

According to Carvey, Myers said, "We're doing two more."

This suggests DreamWorks Animation is secretly planning an additional chapter to extend the multibillion-dollar animated series beyond its scheduled 2027 revival.

The studio has not yet issued a public confirmation or official production timeline for a sixth mainline entry.

Plot details for the next chapter remain under wraps, though screenwriter Michael McCullers previously described it as a major reinvention of the classic characters.

Fifth Film Set for 2027

The upcoming fifth film, initially set for a July release, is now scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2027.

It will be directed by Walt Dohrn, Conrad Vernon, and Brad Ableson.

The original core voice cast returns: Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona.

New additions include Zendaya as their daughter Felicia, alongside Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo as sons Fergus and Farkle.

Spin-off and Franchise Expansion

Eddie Murphy also confirmed that DreamWorks is developing a standalone Donkey spin-off film centered on his character and his dragon family.

That project is projected to premiere sometime in 2028.

The revitalization follows the commercial success of the 2022 spin-off Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which grossed nearly $484 million globally against a production budget of $90–$110 million.
