Halifax Regional Police and search units are urgently searching the Clayton Park neighborhood for a missing newborn baby.

The search began after a woman was hospitalized in life-threatening condition on Friday night, May 22, 2026.

Authorities were notified at approximately 9:40 p. m.

regarding the hospitalized woman, who showed signs of having recently given birth.

According to a police spokesperson, the infant was never present at the medical facility with the mother.

Detentions and Search Operation

Law enforcement officials have detained four individuals for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation.

The individuals in custody are known to the mother, though no formal charges have been laid against them at this time.

The search operation initially focused around 214 Willett Street on Saturday afternoon but expanded to other sections of the neighborhood by 5:00 p.

Nova Scotia Ground Search and Rescue is assisting police with the deployment of numerous personnel on the ground.

Officials have requested that members of the public stay away from the active search zones to facilitate a thorough investigation.

Residents in the Clayton Park area are also urged to check their own properties and immediately report any suspicious findings to law enforcement.

"It would be a fairly significant number of people, police and ground search and rescue, that are on scene right now," said police spokesperson Marla MacInnis.

MacInnis added that emergency crews have been working continuously through the night and day to locate the infant.

"At the moment, it's all hands on deck," said MacInnis. The department reiterated the call for community assistance as the search efforts continue in the residential neighborhood.
