"We would like to thank the Pier & Foreshore security officer and RNLI for assisting our officers on and around the Pier," said HM Coastguard Southend On Sea.

According to HM Coastguard Southend, there has been a recent surge in individuals, particularly teenagers, jumping from local piers into the sea.

Officials identify this dangerous activity as tombstoning, noting high case volumes at Barge Pier on Garrison, Gilson Pier on Marine Parade, and Bell Wharf at Old Leigh.

Security measures and warning signs on these restricted-access structures face continuous vandalism.
