This marks her entry into a third major sci-fi franchise, following Alien and Avatar.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Weaver noted the distinct differences between her franchises: "Alien is a particularly hostile world...
Avatar, it's the humans who are the bad guys. And in this, you have the Mandalorian, who is a hero."
Weaver requested a scene with Grogu from director Jon Favreau, and was astonished by the animatronic puppet operated by five hidden puppeteers.
"I'm just astonished by how evolved he is," she said, adding that it was hard to believe there wasn't a real person inside.
The production used highly detailed practical sets, including a fully populated cantina.

Weaver described walking into a typical Star Wars café, ordering a drink surrounded by various species, calling it "such a thrill."
Din Djarin removes his helmet during a conflict with the Hutt family.
The Twins, aunt and uncle of Jabba the Hutt's son Rotta, capture him, remove his helmet to humiliate him, and drop him into a pit with a Dragon Snake.
After defeating a lesser creature, the Hutts return his helmet, and Djarin eliminates them to keep his face unseen.
Pascal appears unmasked only in this segment; he provides voice work for the rest of the film.
